Compendia is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and currently employs 25 people.  The company was started on January 1st, 2002.  Over the past two plus years, Compendia has released more than 200 new recording projects and sold more than 2,500,000 compact discs. Compendia’s primary method of sale is physical product through major retail outlets.  Compendia’s largest customers include Wal-Mart, Kmart, Best Buy, Musicland, Transworld, Barnes & Noble and Borders Books.  In addition to traditional music retail, Compendia has distribution and sales arrangements with Amazon.com, Apples’ iTunes, Walmart.com, Napster, Music Match and the Columbia Record Club.

A significant component of Compendia’s success is its product distribution to all major retailers and wholesalers in the United States and Canada through the largest independent distributor in North America, Koch Distribution.  The partnership with Koch brings Compendia more than enough expertise and leverage in the marketplace to actively compete with the major record companies.  Outside North America, the company actively partners with best of breed record labels in each individual territory to market and distribute the music overseas.  International label partners include, Sony Music and JVC in Japan, Sanctuary Music, Elap, Prestige, and Edel in Europe, Gallo and David Greshem in South Africa, Avex and Rock Records in Asia as well as many others around the world.

The company has received numerous industry and artist awards, including RIAA Gold record certifications and Grammy, Stellar, and Dove Awards.  In 2003, Light Records recording artist, Rizen, received a Stellar Award as best new Gospel Artist and 2 Dove Award nominations.
