Review: Deeper, Pete Belasco, Compendia

By Jeff Charney

Belasco is a jazz vocalist with a style mix of Marvin Gaye meets Sade (if she was a male).  Soft, mellow jazzy vocals mixed in with his own sultry sax and keyboard playing.  Most of the tracks are vocals pieces though a few are instrumentals.  The man has a strong smooth voice and the songs are catchy in a Smooth Jazz sort of light way.

The title track, the first radio single, moves along at a nice clip with a pop feel that makes it very radio friendly.  "Hurry Hurry" is a soft romantic piece that one might be sipping wine to with the fire place in the background.  Belasco shows off more of his sax skills on "Crazy," a slow piece that has a John Klemmer feel . . .

"Fool's World' gives us a little meat in the background instrumentation for a change of pace.  "Wonderful Woman" has a tad of R&B to it with some good jazz guitar work by JK, but the basic style of the theme of the CD doesn't deviate too far. Thumbs up for Deeper . . .
