The Light is back on at Compendia Music Group
Light Records, the Artist's Company, is reborn

NASHVILLE, TN - (January 16, 2002) Compendia Music Group announced the re-birth of Light Records, the Artist Company, last month in Nashville. Light Records brings with it a catalogue that is among the gospel industry’s most valued. Compendia Media Group acquired the legendary imprint in a re-organization of Platinum/CGI Records. Light Records has always existed as a beacon in the industry, its catalogue includes such pioneering luminaries as, Andrae Crouch, The Hawkins, Commissioned, Danniebelle Hall and The Winans early releases. Compendia Music Group is re-activating the imprint as a full service label in the experienced hands of Phillip White.

Phillip White, with more that 20 years in the music business, including leading CGI Records from the 8th largest Gospel label to the 4th largest in 1998 and #1 independent gospel label in 1999 (Billboard Magazine) will serve as the VP and GM of Light Records. Having worked intimately with the roster of CGI/Platinum, which included James Hall &Worship and Praise, Vicki Winans, and the Mighty Clouds of Joy, until his departure in 1999, Phillip wanted to launch Light Records with a fresh approach. "We want this company to be a new beginning." White says "Light Records had a history of being the beginning of contemporary gospel with some of the genre’s greatest names. That is the mantle we want to carry . . .the commitment to great music." Light Records has always been "the artist company", and it will build on that legacy, putting artists first, by investing in and partnering with the gospel community. "Light Records will seek partnerships with artists where the vision is understood, the ministry embraced, and the royalties are paid," said White.

Light Records, understanding the relationship between ministry and industry, will continue to invest in the development of artists and music the church will be proud to claim. "While a cross over success would be a thrill, music will be created, marketed, and sold with the church in mind" states White. The first artist on the new Light Records; Youthful Praise, a community choir for the new millennium, is evidence of this. The project, Awesome God, is a partnership between Evidence Gospel and Light Records. The project, already receiving raves from industry veterans and consumers alike, will release January 22, 2002.
